Certaldo, village rich in tradition
One of the most evocative medieval villages in Tuscany and Val D’Elsa, it has preserved a magical atmosphere of the past. Certaldo is famous for being the birthplace of Giovanni Boccaccio (author of the Decameron) and is awarded the Orange Flag of the Touring Club Italia, recognition for places that stand out for their tourist, food and wine, cultural and environmental offer. It has a lower, modern part and an upper part which constitutes the ancient medieval nucleus, circumscribed by walls with 3 entrance gates: Porta al Sole, Porta Alberti and Porta del Rivellino.
